So what was it all about ???

This was our rest day, Lhasa.

The day started with the whole group heading to Potala Palace.
Potala Palace is the famed Royal Retreat from the 17th century. It was the winter plalace for the Dalai Lamas from 1649 to 1959. Since China exiled the Dalai Lama it has been a museum.

After the organised trip to Potala Palace we had the rest of the day to ourseleve to explore Lhasa.
A small group of us wandered into the center of the city. The city was viberant and full of people going about their daily lives.
From people working and selling goods in the market to families out for the day with their kids.
We even found a Burger King. Although, I was not 100% convinced the Angus Burger was all the way from the Scottish Highlands but it was really good.

I got stopped in the street by an old Tibetan lady. She was fascinated by the hair on my arms. The other were just taking the mickey, and photos, saying I'd pulled !!!

All in all it was a really good day. Lhasa was very different to every other city I've ever been to. The place was clean and tidy. People were friendly and industrious. With a mix of Chinese and Tibetan culture. Along with Burger King (and McDonalds although we didn't go in there).
