So what was it all about ??? |
This was the day we got to Everest Base Camp. |
It was a great day on the bikes. Everyone was looking forward to getting to Base Camp. |
For my sins it was my turn to wear the "Skidmark T-Shirt. Althought I hadn't fallen off the previous day. Neither had anyone else. So, I won it for the 3 offs I had on the first day. Doh!!! |
While we did many high passes during the trip. Today we did one that was sign posted with the altitude, 5198m (17053ft). |
The route also had a few hairpins in it !!! |
As we approached Base Camp we saw loads of Yaks and a guy on a pedal bike. Boy he must have been fit. |
We pause, just before Base Camp, very briefly at the Monestary we were going to stay at that night. |
Then it was on to Base Camp. It was quite strange really. The area is controlled by the Chinese and they just don't get the concept of "lets make it a tourist attraction". It was just a stoney car park, a few tents selling food and drink and a stome with some writting on it saying it was Base Camp. Very understated. |
We weren't allow to go to where the Climbers pitch up. Which was a couple of Kilometers futher up the track. As you needed additional permits to go there. The Chinese do lie a permit !!! |
It was a photo oppertunity for everyone and between us we must have taken hundreds. At that altitude the air is thinner than we are used to. One of the Australian in our group decide to jog a few yards to show how fit he was. Afterward he admitted he was totally knackered for doing it and took quite a few minutes to recover. |
There wasn't much in the way of souvenirs or trinkets on sale. Just a few rock and things unrealted to everest but you could get a nice hot drink and food. If you fancied it. |
Alex, the owner of Nomadic Knights, took the oppertunity to get a group photo for his webside. It came out really good and he let everyone have a copy. |
Finally, it was back to our digs for the night. The Monestary we had passed earlier. |
