Well Cambodia has always been on my list of "places to go". So, add a motorbike and a great crowd of people, and this was always going to be a high point in my list of holidays.
This was my 3rd trip with Global Enduro and their 1st trip to Cambodia.
Lazy, I know, but what I like most about these sorts of trip is . . . I just pay my money and turn up. All the organisation and planning is done for me. Global Enduro have always managed to arrange good accommodation, interesting riding, and excellent support (both mechanical and medical). And although this was their 1st trip to Cambodia, I was suitably impressed.
Unfortunately for me, on this trip, I got to sample the Medical Support 1st hand. I had 2 crashes. The first on Friday the 13th !!! and the second on the Saturday. Sadly, I have to admit they were both my fault. Must try harder in future, as pain definately hurts and should be avioded at all costs.
Cambodia was hot !!! Some of the routes that were originally planned for us, had to be altered as a result of the recent typhons and flooding. But luckily for us, while we were there, it hardly ever rained and never while we were on the bikes.
My first trip to Cambodia certainly lived up to my expectations and has left me wanting to find out more about it's history and culture.
Although I missed 2 days riding, becasue of injury, I particually enjoyed the riding. Visiting Preah Khan in the jungle (a recently found Angkorian Temple), which is only accessable by treking 40km through the jungle. Made much easier being on bikes. And of course seeing the sun rise at Angkor Wat.
To be honest, the pre-dawn colours were much better than the actual sun rise. And although it envolved getting up very early, 4am,it was well worth it.
For more deatils of my experiences and what we did. Check out the Daily Diaries of the trip (assuming of course I get around to writting them).
Finally a special thanks to . . .
- Richie (Global Enduro) for organising a brilliant trip
- Mark & Kaite (Medical Support, hope I remembed their names correctly) for looking after me after 2 crashes
- Zeman & Debs (Cambodia Expeditions) for all their silent efforts in the background. i.e. ensuring our luggage was alway in the rooms at the end of each days riding - priceless !!!
- All the support Mechanics (Sorry I can't remember all your names) for the many repairs, punctures, and help
- and everyone else on the trip for making it such an enjoyable and memorable holiday
Keep the faith, your knees in the breeze and your Bike rubber side down
Colin
