This was a short Skiing trip to Engelberg (Switzerland), to celebrate Tony's 40th Birthday - how old !!!
The journey to Engelberg was a Flight, followed by 2 trains. To be honest I wasn't looking forward to the journey. I thought it was going to be very tiresome, carrying luggage and ski's. But to my surprise it was actually quite easy.
When we got to Engelberg there was loads of Snow, and more falling from the skys.
I had decided not to take my ski's and boots on this trip. As they were very old and I thought I'd hire some new ones.
What a mistake !!! The boots were crippling. I went back to the Hire Shop and swapped them, several times, but they hurt my feed so much I was so glad when it was over.
The other thing I was very disappionted in, was my fitness. I really let myself down here. I was just skiing a few 100 yards and my legs and lungs were giving up.
Still on the bright side the Hotel (Hotel Terrace) was excellent, and the food. Well lets just say it was the wrong place to go if you wanted to loose weight. Especailly as all the food was included in the price of the Hotel, and it was "as much as you can eat".
The biggest event of the trip was Marky P's huge crash. Didn't see the actual tumble, just the aftermath. Was quite a serious accident as the x-ray later showed. But that didn't stop everyone offering advise. Most notably Paul, who said, "what's the matter, you should just ski it off".
Despite my lack of fitness and the crippling boots. It was still an excellent resort for a short break. And a good crowd of peopel to go with.
