So, what do I think of this Bike ???

My first Non-Learner bike. I bought it from my brothers friend Geoff, in 1983, just after I passed my bike test. It was in albolutely mint condition.

It was my first bike with disc brakes. Back in those days it was not a given that a bike would have them.

It was my pride an joy. Until a Ford Capri driver tried to over take a bus on a blind bend. I was coming the other way and stood no chance. The bike and I hit the Capri and went straight over the top.
Strange as it sounds . . . When I hit the ground I landed in the seating position. My legs straight out in front of me. I sat there momentarily. My first thought was, "Well, I know it's going to be damaged but perhaps the bikes not too bad".
I'm told this was a good sign I was OK. I turned around to see my pride and joy upside down on the pavement, front wheel jammed into the exhausts. It was a mess !!!

Well after that I started to customise / repair the bike. Initailly, it was drop hadle bars a front end from a RD250D. To get it back on the Road. Then I got some CarPlan paint, a couple of Yamaha Transfers and some filler to bring the tank back to it's former glory.
Eventually, I went to clipons, Mel LeMoto rear sets, Marzocchi shocks, Allspeed Formula 3 expansion chanbers, got the barrels ported. Then finally swapped the 250cc engine out for a 400cc one, supposedly Stan Stephen tuned.

In the end I eventually sold this bike to Mike (a friend of Dave Sandilands) who wanted a cheap bike to go Proddy Racing on.

I have so many good memories of this Bike. It is the one bike I really regret selling.
